A whole bunch of images

Flickr image sets from the last couple weeks:

Eric Nassau
Eric Nassau from 9/13/08 - What a totally enjoyable performance and nice guy Eric is...I think this was the third midday show we've hosted, and it has me thinking about doing it more regularly. Eric will be back on Saturday, December 6th.

Barb & Brian raise their glasses during Nick's gig
Nick Weiland from 9/20/08 - Nick's "Whiskey Jars & Scandals" partner, Brian, couldn't make it but Nick was fantastic all by his lonesome and we got a great recording of him. He was so good we asked him to play at our anniversary party (below).

Julie (and hubby Chad) loved Matt's performance
Matt & Steph Davies and Becky 9/27/08 - In just a short time Matt and Steph have become some of our most favorite people. These guys are so darn nice and so talented. Steph is funny...soon as she's done singing she's off doodling in her journal while Matt plays. Matt is the most uber-talented folk singer I think I've heard...right out of the Woodie Guthrie/early Dylan mold...great voice, awesome songwriter, and solid-as-a-rock guitar player. Becky rounded this night out quite nicely...what a fun trio these guys made. She performed her just-written Stumpjack Song and it darn near had me tearing up...AWESOME! And then the coolest thing...Matt, Steph and Bec did a few tunes together, including the old folk song, "This Land is Your Land," and everyone in the house sang the chorus! How great is that! Check it out on this YouTube vid below.

Anniversary Party from 9/28/08 - What a blast! We have the greatest friends and customers and supporters ever! Everyone had fun, the wine and tapas bar got off to a great start, took some casually fun video (on our YouTube page now), and Nick Weiland was the absolute perfect musical accompaniment to the party (a number of people used that very word about Nick and his music, "perfect"). I'll have to write a little bit more about the event in a follow-up post tomorrow and go through a few pictures with you, but for now here's the image set.

Tina, Becky and Nick...and "The Three Curly's"

Tina at her persimmons opening.
Just a few Flickr pics from Becky's gig last Friday. What a trooper...not feeling good and she still played a spirited set that was enjoyed by everyone. Have a few pics from Tina Kugler's Persimmons art opening a couple weeks ago mixed in with Bec's. Click here for the set.

Pat, Chad, David...I've been waiting for the three of us to all be in the house at the same time...

...just so I could take this picture!

Click here for way too many pics from Nick Venturella's gig on Saturday. What a blast...too dang hot in the Stump but dang fun regardless. Nick will be back in a few short months...if you missed this show don't be a chump and miss him again.

Live music photos, CDs

Ethan Keller
It's just a few hours til Pat Zyduck plugs in here tonight. This is one of the cooler double-header weekends we've had...last night Ethan Keller was the bees knees with lots of new tunes and some totally funkified covers (e.g., kellerized Thomas Dolby and Junior Walker). It was a fun night for Kim and I, as we had Cheyenne and Glen here to help out and we both were able to just chill and enjoy the music and conversation.

...with melodica
We have a few copies of Ethan's new CD, "One Way," here too and a handful of his "Face Light" CD...been playing them both all day.

cool image of Ethan, although I wish it had a bit more light
Click here for the Ethan Keller Flickr set from last night.

Adam Morantez
Click here for the Adam Morantez set from a couple Friday ago. Adam was great...his first solo gig (you would never have known...he was confident and smooth). We've set another date with Adam for Friday, Oct. 3rd.

Pat Zyduck
Click here for the Pat Zyduck's set. What a totally enjoyable show from Pat last night...he's such a great guitar player and really fine songwriter. Had a couple of folks stop in this morning (Sunday morn) who were here last night, who said what a great time they had listening to Pat. We have a few of Pat's CDs availabkle too.

Derek Pritzl Flickr pics

Flickr images from Derek Pritzl's gig last Saturday night. We heard a number of cool new tunes from Derek, who was back in town from Madison where he is now going to school. He and Scott put on a rock & blues tour de force, with some great harp accompaniment on a few songs from a friend of theirs who's name I'm afraid I don't recall (look at the pics). My camera was on the fritz on Friday, the night before, when Mike Retzinger and Joa LaForce performed...great night of mucic from Mike and Joe, and some really fabulous guitar playing. Those guys are as smooth as silk, real pros.

Pagelmania hits the Midwest

"Squeeze" caught by hidden ceiling cam
Here's the Flickr set of Pick & Squeeze from Friday night's gig. Greg played for an hour by himself as Andy was apparently cross-dressing and running in circles in a public place and thus couldn't make the beginning of their scheduled gig (he says he was in some "Relay for Life" event and that he had to dress up as a fairly princess...whatever, Andy...). Anyway, Greg played some really cool electronic, ambient improvisational funkificationalized diddlydoodah on his electric organ for an hour (man, I wish we had recorded that...so cool!).

Pick & Squeeze...Andy looking determined to get home and get that Snow White dress off the hanger one more time...while Greg looks on wistfully.
After an hour of digging Greg's melodic musings and everyone talking about Andy behind his back, Andy (aka Pick) finally showed up (sans fairy princess garb) to join Greg (aka Squeeze) and got down to it with, as we like to say down south, "some mighty fine pickin' there!" He even set down his guitar and accompanied Greg's accordion with a fiery flute solo, though try as he might he looked nothing at all like Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson, even with leg raised practically over his head as he played (sorry Andy, perhaps you need to let the beard grow and get more scraggly).

Kim flashing Pick & Squeeze secret gang sign...well, not so secret anymore I guess...
Another fun night from Pick & Squeeze (or, as we like to call them, those naughty Pagel boys). They promise to return to lay waste to all who stand in their way as they burn their subliminal musical manifesto into the minds of the weak-willed masses! Yea, you have been forewarned!
