Excellent music on tap - Icarus Drifting this Friday

We've got a really gorgeous line-up of live music scheduled for the coming weeks, including some artists we haven't seen for a while. We'll be posting more info about all of that this week, but I just wanted to get a quick reminder out there today about the show with Icarus Drifting this Friday evening (the 22nd) at 7:00pm.

Here's the text from the facebook event listing:

We are SO happy & excited to have Eric Cox, Pat Zyduck and Hannah Benton of Icarus Drifting at Stumpjack this Friday night. These musicians are really fantastic...the last time Icarus Drifting played the Stump it was such an experience, so rich, so dynamic...it was one of the more memorable musical experiences we've had. The line-up for this Friday's show is a little abbreviated from their last performance here (these guys do ha...ve regular jobs too I guess...go figure!)...but they have added a new vocalist with Hannah Benton, and Eric has very high praise for her...so we're super excited about hearing the new sound.

This is from their website, and I can tell you that it is absolutely true, in spades...they do create an experience:
Icarus/Drifting is a concert band. Whether performing acoustically at the local coffee house or plugging in on the biggest festival stages, every show is crafted to be a sonic experience like none other. We’ve built our reputation on bringing a great deal more than just our collection of songs to the stage each night – audiences demand more these days. In order to compete as an original band, we’ve learned that we must give people something they crave more than songs they already know… We give them a band they can believe in, create an atmosphere that defies the confines of the daily grind, and offer an experience they can dive into and feel a part of. Audiences demand this kind of passion and honesty – and we possess these most essential elements in spades.

Duct Tape & Silk - Stumpjack Fashion

Mark your calendars, ladies! Next weekend, Saturday night, will be "Stumpjack Fashion Night," as we host the touring Duct Tape & Silk fashion tour that began on the west coast & is currently heading east across America.

Stumpjack Urban Design Red #23
Inspired by the work controversial fashion designer John Galliano, Duct Tape & Silk features outrageous yet aesthetically accessible designs using materials both industrial and sublimely genteel, such as duct tape or fiberglass insulation combined with high-end silks & Egyptian tweeds. Critical reviews of the touring fashion show have run the gamut from "Outrageously brilliant!" (Sido Harnek, "NYTimes") to "A fashion disaster of epic proportions. Ridiculous is the kindest word I can use for this embarrassment to fashion." (Harlan Reynolds, "Designer International").
Stumpjack Urban Design Gray #13
This show will also help introduce or "kick-off" the forthcoming Stumpjack line of women's urban evening wear, which incorporates materials like those mentioned above and which will be retailed in three select boutiques in the Milwaukee, Chicago and Wittenberg areas. We're very excited to be getting into the fashion business, albeit starting on a small (though seriously focused) level. Duct Tape & Silk will be a ticketed event and is limited in admission as there will be a television crew here to film the event. More details to come.

April 2nd note: Yes, this was an April Fool's gag. I mean really, our designs would be so much more funky.

Dustin Lee & Pat Zyduck

We've got a treat for you this Saturday night. Big Stump Slab Bacon proudly presents Pat Zyduck and Dustin Lee this Saturday evening at 7:00pm at the Stumpjack Coffee House, the only true coffee house this side of Gondor. Pat Zyduck has performed with us a few times now, both solo and as part of the siuper group Icarus Drifting (who will, btw, be here for a return performance at month's end, April 22nd). Pat has one of those rich, warm, kind of world-weary voices that seems to saturate the air. And he's a very fine songwriter and guitar player, with a few CDs to his resume already. If it was just him, performing sole, it would be a dang good night of music...BUT he's sharing the bill with another excellent singer/songwriter, Dustin Lee, which makes it an even more special night of music.

Last year Dustin, with his CD "On My Way Back Home," earned top honors as the 2010 ISMA (Indian Summer Music Awards) winner in the Folk category. This is a small excerpt from Dustin's bio page of his website (http://www.dustinlee.net/...I'd encourage you to check out his site for more about Dustin):

Dustin Lee is an American singer-songwriter, originally hailing from Fort Madison, Iowa.  Currently living in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he has recently released his album “On My Way Back Home” featuring thirteen moving, thoughtful, and poignant songs inspired by life in the Hawkeye state.

and this comment from music critic Michael Popke in The Shepherd Express:

"On My Way Back Home celebrates simplicity and effectively serves as the perfect soundtrack to the recession of 2009".

Finally, here's some excellently produced video of Dustin, including his performance of  on Twin Cities Live:
